What does a DOT Physical Consist of?

If your employees are assigned as "safety sensitive" by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which means their activity can affect both their very own wellbeing and the wellbeing of general society, they are required to have a regular DOT physical to continue working. A DOT Physical follows strict rules ordered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), guaranteeing that business drivers and other security sensitive representatives are healthy enough to work safely.

What to bring to a DOT Physical

Commercial drivers need to bring a total rundown of their medication, including the measurements, routine, doses, and their specialists' names and addresses. To spare time, it is suggested that drivers fill out the health questionnaire before coming to Amarillo STAT Care.

To ensure the DOT Physical goes as smooth as can be reasonably expected, drivers with certain medical issues need to bring appropriate records or objects. For instance:

Drivers with vision or hearing issues must bring their eyeglasses, contacts, or hearing aids.

Drivers with diabetes must bring the latest lab results from their Hemoglobin A1C (HgAIC), and their blood sugar logs.

Drivers with heart-related issues must, at least, bring a letter from their cardiologist that plots their therapeutic history and current meds, and demonstrates that they are safe to work.

What the DOT Physical Covers

1. Vision: Drivers are required to have no less than 20/40 acuity in each eye with or without rectification. They are additionally required to have least 70” peripheral in the horizontal meridian, determined in each eye.
2. Hearing: Drivers must most likely perceive what is known as a "forced whisper” at a separation of 5ft or less, with or without a listening device. This standard likens to normal hearing loss in the preferred ear of less over 40 dB.
3. Blood pressure/beat rate: The medical examiner will check the driver's blood pressure and heartbeat to search for hypertension and sporadic pulses.
4. Urinalysis: urinalysis is required. The test searches for signs of fundamental ailments, for example, diabetes.
5. Physical Examination.

What the DOT Physical Covers (cont)

- Extremities (limbs impaired)
- Spine, other musculoskeletal (past medical procedure, impediment of movement,tenderness, and so forth.)
- Neurological (impaired equilibrium, coordination or speech pattern, ataxia, asymmetric deep tendon reflexes)
